On the second day of the new year, they officially declared death and watched 500 million people crying ...

2020-01-08 | National Pavilion original |

Goodbye, but never again.

Human beings wish to enter 2020.

The Yangtze River Baiji is unsatisfactory and always stops at 2019.

This is the hot search with more than 500 million followers on the second day of the new year, and the bad news that I hate to hear at the beginning of the new year.

Just a few days ago, the international academic journal "Entire Environmental Science" announced :

The Yangtze River Baiji has become extinct.

Dare to imagine that this species that has survived 150 million years on Earth has completely disappeared today.

The last video was on January 23, 2003.

After the experts rescued a white cricket, they returned it to the Yangtze River and tried to track it.

I never thought that I hit the reef on the danger beach and lost the tracking signal.

Since then, there have been no more white pheasants in the Yangtze River.

What makes me uncomfortable is that behind this extinction, people are also contributing to the flames.

Since the completion of Gezhouba, fishermen have begun to intensify fishing.

In order to seek higher benefits, some fishermen also use "Ecstasy", electric fish, fried fish and other means to fish, even the young fish.

In addition to various industrial sewage, the water quality has dropped sharply, and Baijiu failed to survive.

Actually think about it, no matter which species, you can't stand this torture, extinction is sooner or later.

I encountered an extinction of a species before, and I didn't take it to heart, it didn't seem to matter to me.

However, when I realized that I had seen Baiji in the textbooks and could only see it through the video materials in the future, a sudden voice in my heart kept reminding me :

We lost it forever.

Aside from emotions, you may feel nothing.

Behind Bai Ju's extinction, there are hidden fears.

That is, there is a missing link in the ecosystem. I also learned it in the biology class before. The missing link has a great impact.

Maybe people don't notice the difference now, they can accumulate little by little, the vicious circle will eventually collapse the ecological circle.

In other words, it is we who are at the top of the food chain that ultimately suffer.

Horriblely, we are accumulating all this.

Baiyu is not the first species to watch and disappear in our lifetime.

"I have never met in this life, I heard it is farewell", this happened too many times.

In the world's largest animal acoustic laboratory, there are many animal sounds, including extinct animals.

One of them is a recording of a Hawaiian honey sucker.

This is a male bird courting by singing.

It's just that no matter how it sings, there is no female bird response at all, only its solitary voice in the audio.

Because, there are no more female birds.

That is the last Hawaiian honey sucker in the world.

At the end of the audio, the voice of that male bird also disappeared.

meaning, extinct.

It is also closely related to people's activities.

From now on, we can no longer see it in person.

03 It's called a traveling pigeon.

The only travelling pigeon in the world died at the beginning of the last century.

Before that, who would have thought, they used to have a sky-covering pigeon flock.

In North America with a population of less than 40 million, the number of travelling pigeons reached 5 billion.

No matter how you think about it, you can't think that they will go extinct.

But the reality is that people hunt and kill in order to obtain meat and satisfy private interests.

At the time, countless people thought that there were too many traveling pigeons and it didn't matter how they were killed.

With the desire to smoke, the number of travelling pigeons has plummeted.

Finally, disappeared.

And this process only took more than a hundred years.

It's called a big tit.

Unfortunately, there is no real photo of it in the world.

More than a hundred years ago, it was the most common water bird.

However, people did not escape doom after all, and people snapped it.

The meat on them is used for eating, the eggs laid are used for soup, and the down on them is used for clothes and hats.

But in decades, they have completely disappeared.

On July 3, 1844, the last pair of big puffins were struck alive after being caught by people during the incubation period, and the hatched eggs were also crushed.

There is no other image in the world.

Unfortunately, this has happened many times.

It is the last Galapagos tortoise in the world.

It's the last Leiber tree frog.

It is the last northern male white rhino in the world.

It is the last wolf wolf in the world.

It is the last Hawaiian golden-topped tree snail.

However, none of them survived.

Of course, these are just the tip of the iceberg.

Human activities beyond the food chain itself push more and more animals to the abyss of extinction.

Their disappearance will never say hello to people.

When caught off guard, some animals will never be seen again in this life.

Remember a sentence in "Wandering Earth" :

At first, no one cared about the disaster, it was just a mountain fire, a drought, the extinction of a species, the disappearance of a city. Until this disaster became closely related to each of us.

Perhaps only then will people reflect on it, but everything should be too late.

What makes me uncomfortable is that even with so many extinctions ahead, people have not put away their butcher knives.

A lot of once common animals have become endangered.

Take the sharks, for example, they survived four mass extinction periods and are considered very strong animals.

However, today, people can easily reduce the number of sharks by 90%.

By slaughter, by pollution.

In China, there is one of the world's largest shark slaughterhouses.

Shredded shark meat can be found everywhere in processing plants.

More than 600 sharks can be slaughtered here every year, including several endangered species including whale sharks.

Whale shark skin can be sold to leather traders, meat can be sold to foreign restaurants, and shark fins are on the Chinese table.

The remaining liver oil is the most valuable. It is used to make various health products and skin care products.

Attracted by the huge profits, there are still many people around the world carrying on this despicable business.

Someone has followed a group of fishermen in Indonesia who are looking for shark fins and found a cruel reality.

They kill sharks only for shark fins, and the rest are thrown back into the sea.

Sharks that have lost their fins will fall in the sea, but cannot swim if they want to swim.

Because you can't move, it's a matter of time before death.

Similar experience with sharks also includes ghost manta rays.

Similarly, people also kill them for their own selfish desires.

Stab it with a spear, sharp knife, etc. and ship it back to the shore, waiting for different merchants to acquire it.

In folk rumors, its cartilage can be ground into pills, activating blood and removing blood stasis, and treating various types of bruises.

There is also a saying that its gills can treat cancer and infertility.

Even though it proved to be ineffective, people are still rushing to kill them in large numbers.

Sea turtles are not good too.

People are hunting for turtles for the benefit of others.

They have to take photos with many tourists every day. When they encounter some violent tourists, they are trampled and abused.

Among them, there is a kind called 玳瑁, which will be killed by people alive, and then made into glasses, necklaces, and various cultural toys.

Some people do n’t even let their eggs go.

Besides, because the female turtles landed and hatched at night, the lights made on the beach made the female turtles mistakenly think that it was daytime, and they did not hatch.

Even if there is one ashore, the newly hatched small turtle will lose its direction back to the sea due to the light.

The most deadly thing is that people discharge garbage into the sea. As long as the turtle eats it by accident, it will die in minutes.

Little turtles have only a one-in-one chance of succeeding in adulthood.

To be cruel, there are only 7 species of sea turtles left in the world.

The sharp decline in numbers puts them on the brink of extinction.

Because of human selfish desire, many animals are moving towards the same tragic fate.

Elephants and ivory are made into various expensive crafts, and elephant skins are peeled off to make beads.

The sperm whale was hunted in large quantities after people found a liquid called whale naphtha in their heads.

After processing, whale naphtha is made into candles, lubricants, etc.

Rhino, horns were given the moral of disaster relief, and various poaching groups came out of the nest to kill cattle and unload the horns.

Pangolins, because scales can be used for medicine, and they have been severely endangered by poisonous hands.

Bluefin tuna, because it has a good meat texture, is the best raw material for sushi, and is highly sought after by people. It has not escaped the fate of overhunting.

At present, Atlantic bluefin tuna populations have shrunk by 90%.

That Australian fire that lasted for nearly 4 months and has not yet died out has burned more than 20,000 koalas and killed hundreds of millions of other animals.

As they are, there are many more.

So far, there are 593 species of birds, 400 species of beasts, and 209 species of amphibians and reptiles on the verge of extinction.

Cruel reality is before us, and humans have not stopped the slaughter.

Of course, except for slaughter, the biggest impact on these endangered animals is pollution.

The so-called pollution is not only sewage and waste gas, but also litter.

Last year, a sperm whale stranded and died on the beach.

After autopsy, they found a garbage ball weighing 200 pounds in the stomach.

Among them are fishing nets, plastic cups, gloves, packing bags, etc.

Usually the garbage we throw into the trash can is difficult to recycle because it is not sorted, either incinerated or flowed into the sea.

The Turtle Association says that more than 1 million marine animals die each year, and there may be 100 million tons of plastic in the world's oceans.

The garbage is difficult to be decomposed, it will only be hoarded in the sea to pollute the water quality and be eaten by marine life.

Humans indirectly eat garbage into their stomachs by preying on these marine life.

There is such a report in the Science and Technology Daily that makes people shudder :

Due to the strong interference of human activities, the loss of modern species is 1000 times faster than the rate of natural extinction.

Species extinction speed increased from roughly one per day to one per hour.

After all, the debts owed by humans are still brought back by the animals.

In Beijing, there is a world graveyard for extinct animals.

Behind a stone cross, this animal gravestone that has been extinct for nearly 300 years has been neatly fallen.

All tombstones are like dominoes, one on top of the other and extending to the distance.

In the farthest place, there are a pair of large stone hands, holding several endangered stone monuments, and the endangered species are on it.

Over time, the cemetery will be built longer and longer.

Who knows the next tombstone that fell down, but the clearly engraved words on the last tombstone are called humans.

There is such a word in the epitaph that I can't forget for a long time :

When the last tiger on earth seeks a mate in vain in the plantation; when the last eagle that has not left offspring falls from the filthy sky; when the last wailing of the elk echoes over the dry swamp ...Human beings, see their end!

In the final analysis, human beings must eat bad results themselves.

No one can live alone at the top of the biological chain.

All this is not alarmist.

Take African elephants, according to Interpol data, in the last 10 years, an average of 20,000 elephants have been hunted every year.

At this rate, they will become extinct within 20 years.

This is not an example.

After all, some common animal extinctions will also become a reality.

65 million years ago, after an asteroid hit the earth, the dinosaurs became extinct.

In the future, if a similar mass extinction event occurs, humans must be the asteroid.

At that time, we standing at the top of the food chain will face the collapse of the entire ecosystem.

Economic circles are interlocked, and the loss of any link will have a significant impact.

For a simple example, if the owl becomes extinct, the number of vole can't be controlled, and the flooding of vole will ruin the crop and the harvest will be reduced. The impact is still human.

All vicious circles will retaliate on humans in the worst way.

And all this has nothing to do with you.

The shark fins you eat, the endangered animal crafts you bought, litter, the plastic bags used, etc. are pushing the animals towards the edge of extinction.

Picture | Piggy Lucas-Photo

In the past, whenever we saw these tragic news, we would feel distressed, but what happened after that?

What should I do?

This will not help.

So, today, we really should do something, for animals, and for us.

1. There is no harm without trading, and all endangered animal products are rejected.

2. Reduce the use of plastic bags.

3. Do a good job of garbage classification.

Three things are all close to us.

May be a small thing for us, but for animals, for the future, it is a big thing to do.

There is a saying in "Racing Extinction" :

"It is better to light a candle than to curse the night."

All small actions are better than only heartache, and they will definitely yield results.

I don't hope that more than a hundred years later, because of our reasons, future generations can only see elephants and rhinos from photos ...

I hope that we can all be humble, awesome and not destroy their living environment, in other words, also for our own better living on this planet.

Even though the times have changed, future generations can still see many different animals of this era, and proudly say :

"Thank you for your efforts."
